If you have kids, you already know how this goes: they grow out of clothes approximately five minutes after you buy them, suddenly none of their shoes fit, and somehow every new season comes with a whole new list of things they need.
That’s why a good kids consignment sale is absolutely worth putting on the calendar.

1. Check the closets before you shop
Take five minutes and figure out what everyone actually needs. Jeans? Hoodies? Winter coat? Shoes? Knowing the gaps before you walk in helps keep you focused when you see approximately 400 adorable things your child absolutely does not need (but we both know a bunch of those are coming home with you anyway).
2. Shop one size ahead
Don't just think about what fits today. Fall and winter are coming, and kids have a habit of hitting growth spurts at the least convenient time possible. If you find a great deal on the next size up, grab it.
3. Start with the expensive stuff
I always like to look for the things that hurt the most to buy new: coats, boots, shoes, baby gear, bigger toys and other higher-ticket items. Finding even one or two of those secondhand can make the trip worth it.
4. Don't skip toys, books and games
Clothes may be the obvious reason to go, but the toy and book sections can be gold. It's a great place to find something new-to-them without paying brand-new prices, especially with birthdays and the holidays coming up.
5. Shop early if selection matters most to you
If you have specific sizes or items on your list, earlier is usually better. The Pre-Sale runs September 18-19, before the public sale opens September 20.
